Hot-Lap design and manufacture 3 variants of a 6 Point roll cage for race and trackday use for the Lotus Elise/Exige family of cars:-
S1 Elise Motorsport Elise S2 K Series (long & short roof) S2 111R S2 Exige
The 3 variants of the 6 Point cage are:-
Type B – a standard cage
Type C – an enhanced cage (roof struts)
Type D – an enhanced cage with side impact bars
The 6-point cage is primarily constructed in two sections for ease of installation:
The rear construction of Type B, C & D cages now employs a continuous hoop with a left and right diagonal forming a cross with the harness bar passes through the cross in the same plane, replacing the conventional A frame in the S1 and the original hoop in the S2. The strengthened rear struts are welded to the main hoop for strength and pass through into the engine bay. The fitting of the gusseted struts in the engine bay uses the existing screw fitting through a vertical tube into the chassis and is designed to surround the shock mounting points for added structural strength. This exceeds the MSA guidlines for 'Race Car' roll cages.
The front half consists of a parallel structure running along each side from the hoop along the roof line and down the ‘A’ post adjacent to the windscreen, through the front dash and fitted onto the scuttle beam. A tube runs across behind the windscreen and is welded to the sides and gusseted for added strength joining the two sides on the Type B cage, whilst the Type C & D cages have a strut brace from the 'A' post to the windscreen tube which continues in line with the roof strengthening bars. In the Type C cage this design makes viewing, via the ‘A’ post, unrestricted with clear vision and provides an unhindered exit from the car in an emergency. The regulations for the Type D 'Rally' cage necesitate that additional side impact protection be provided. The roof construction on the Type B cage uses corner webs to strengthen the roof construction. All of the Hot-Lap 6 Point cage have been designed to allow tall drivers to ride in the car in comfort without banging their crash helmet on obstructing crossbars. The front section of the Exige cage is slightly different from the Elise due to the different roof configuration.
The front section where it meets the rear section at the hoop is preformed ready to be welded onto the rear hoop to complete the
6-Point cage construction.

Supply & Fit
The Type B cage is a standard full 6-Point Cage of welded construction. When ordered as supply only it is delivered in two halves for ease of installation and once welded together bolts on to the 6-points on the car’s chassis.
Cage shown is for an Elise 111R/S2 Exige (Toyota series).
The Type C is an enchaned full 6-Point Cage incorporating additional strengthening in the roof.
As with all the Hot-Lap 6 point cages it is of welded construction and for the supply only option is supplied in two halves for ease of installation and once welded together bolts on to the 6-points on the car’s chassis.
Cage shown is for an S1 Elise.

The Type D is an enchaned full 6-Point 'Rally' Cage. This cage also has side impact bars and secondary 'A' post struts to comply with MSA rally regulations. Again, it is of welded construction and for the supply only option is supplied in two halves for ease of installation with the side impact bars and secondary 'A' posts to be welded in after the front and rear of the cage have been fitted.

The cage differs from some other roll cage manufacturers in that the front and rear half are welded together (not bolt together) to provide a safer and stronger construction. The cage is then bolted onto the chassis using strong assembly plates formed around the chassis structure to provide a robust monolithic structure. The front mounting points are not on the door sills but are mounted on the scuttle beam through the sides of the front dash.
The cages can be supplied unpainted or powder coated in a range of colours. The cages can be bought as Supply Only or Supply and Fit. The fitting service can be carried out through our network of professional installers depending on customer preference and location.
The Hot-Lap rear cage replaces the existing hoop and the rear struts into the engine bay are thicker and stronger and welded onto the hoop. The main hoop is made from 45mm CDS 2.54 mm thick. The left and right diagonal, harness bar and the struts into the engine bay are 38mm CDS and the fixing ends in the engine bay are formed around the suspension points and gusseted for additional strength. The front section of the cage is manufactured entirely in 45mm CDS 2.54mm thick. All of the Hot-Lap cages can be manufactured in T45 if required.
Installation:
The rear clam will have to be removed in order to remove the old hoop and fit the new. It is advisable to remove the rear window before inserting the new cage. The rear window can then be re-fitted or replaced with a lighter polycarbonate windscreen. Full photographic installation/fitting instructions are supplied with the cages.
